Hello world! (and the game with the engineering jokes is afoot!). I am Arnaud Van Mieghem from Belgium and currently studying at the Catholic University of Leuven, KU Leuven. I specialise in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Integrated Circuits.
For the 2019 Fall semester, I have the privilege to be studying at Columbia University NYC. This adventure is made possible by the ‘ENGenius-fund for international mobility‘ from the faculty of Engineering Sciences at KU Leuven, under which I received the ‘Nokia Bell Labs- Columbia University Grant’. An opportunity of a lifetime, which I would love to share with anyone who is reading this blog!
During this summer I am doing an internship at the Nokia Bell Labs-Antwerp division. So far it has been an amazing experience, but more on that in another blog post.
My passion in problem-solving is something that has long determined my course of studies. As stated before, I am specialising in electronics, which was preceded by my graduation as bachelor (undergraduate) in Electrical-Mechanical Engineering Sciences, at the KU Leuven. The creativity in problem-solving that goes together with the defined physical laws of the world, is what I find so interesting about engineering and always challenged me as an engineering student.
The soul of engineering for me: Finding solutions for practical problems with theoretical insights!
Of course my life isn’t just studying. I played a lot of basketball when I was younger. Nowadays I prefer to run outside or go for a swim. Running in the park around the Arenberg castle surely provides a nice scenery! I always enjoy a game of chess. From time to time I also, climb on the stage with Trivial Muffins, an English theater company rooted in Leuven. And meeting new people is something I love to do. I am curious to expand my world, something I’m sure I’ll be able to do the upcoming semester!
Until next time!
Arnaud
